Training prerequisites to application for California State Board of Esthetician Licensing
Examination. Development of professional skills and attitudes relative to an Esthetics
career. Successful graduates will have the skills and knowledge to pass the State
Board and secure entry-
The curriculum for students enrolled in an
Esthetician course consists of 600 clock hours of technical instruction and practical
operations covering all practices constituting the art of Esthetics. Technical instruction
means instruction by demonstration, lecture, classroom participation, or examination.
Practical operations means actual performance by the student of a complete service
on another person or a mannequin. Such technical instruction and practical operations
shall include:
1. Acquire knowledge of laws and
rules regulating California Cosmological establishment practices.
2. Understand sterilization
procedures.
3. Acquire knowledge of general theory relative to Esthetician including
anatomy and physiology, chemistry, and theory relative to practical procedures performed
4. Acquire business management techniques common to Esthetician
Skills to be Acquired:
1. Use of proper implements relative to cosmetician.
2. Develop
the knowledge to recogniz the various skin conditions and disorders.
3. Develop the
knowledge relating to products used by Esthetician and determined for individual
customer use.
4. Develop the knowledge of safety precautions associated with Esthetic
practices.
ATTITUDES AND APPRECIATION TO BE DEVELOPED:
1. Be able to appreciate good
workmanship common to Esthetics.
2. Possess a positive attitude towards public and
fellow workers.
3. Appreciate honesty and integrity.

dealing with patrons and colleagues.
Requirements for Satisfactory Competion of Course:
1.
Shall have satisfactorily completed Theory and Operations required by California
Board of Cosmetology with an average grade of "C" or better and passed the State
Exam.
Subject Matter and Practical Operations:
1. The Cosmetology Act and the Board's
Rules & Regulations
2. Chemistry pertaining to practices of a Esthetician and purpose
of cosmetic and skin care preparation. (Shall also include the elementary chemical
matter of makeup, physical and chemical changes of matter.)
3. Health & Safety /
Hazardous Substance
4. Electricity. (Shall include the nature of electrical current,
principles of operating electrical devices, and the various safety precautions used
when operating electrical equipment.)
5. Disinfection & Sanitation.
6. Bacteriology,
anatomy and physiology.
7. Facials:
A. Manual Facials;
(Shall include skin analysis,
cleansing, scientific manipulations, packs and masks.
B. Electrical Facials;
(Shall
include the use of all-
C. Chemical applications;
(Shall include
chemical skin peels, (only epidermal layer may be removed), packs, masks and scrubs.
8. Eyebrow Arching / Tweezers.
9. Depilatories.
10. Makeup application.
11. Corrective
Makeup / False Eyelashes.
12. Additional Training:
May include professional ethics,
personal hygiene, good grooming, salesmanship, normal cleanup duties, required keeping
of student daily records, modeling, desk and reception. May also include not more
than 8 hours credit for field trips. Such field trips shall be under the direct
30 Remaining hours for this class will be credited

When
a student has completed the required 600 hours, the theory hours and practical operations
in Esthetics with a GPA of "C" (70%) or better and the student has paid in full all
tuition and fees, the student is awarded a diploma certifying his or her graduation.
Students are assisted in completing the necessary documents to file for the appropriate
State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology examination.
Licensing Requirements:
Applicant
must be 17 years of age or older and have completed the 10th grade. A Manicuring
license will be granted by the State of California only after the student has successfully
completed and graduated from the nail care course as described above and passed the
California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology examination with an overall average
of 75%.
